Director Michael Radford’s 2002 Dancing at the Blue Iguana is a brave and intriguing improvised drama exploring the everyday dilemmas faced by women working at a seedy strip-club, from adoption to pregnancy to seeking stardom. The women are dancer Angel (Daryl Hannah), who wants to adopt, Stormy (Sheila Kelley) who has a brother (Elia Koteas), Jasmine (Sandra Oh) who falls in love with Dennis (Chris Hogan), Jo (Jennifer Tilly), who becomes pregnant, and stardom-seeking Jessie (Charlotte Ayanna).
Though the drama might work better on stage, the acting is totally committed, credible and virtually flawless.
It stars Daryl Hannah, Jennifer Tilly, Sandra Oh and Elia Koteas. Also in the cast are Robert Wisdom as the strip-club manager Eddie, David Amos, Rodney Rowland and Kristin Bauer [Kristin Bauer van Straten].
It is 18 cert/ R rated adult material with pervasive sexual content/ nudity, language, some drug content and brief violence.
