Emma Greenwell stars as real-life young Irishwoman Mary Reynolds, who will stop at nothing to become gold medal winner at the Chelsea Flower Show, in writer-director Vivienne De Courcy’s old-fashioned heart-warmer.
You’d have to be a really horrible person to take against the good spirit of this bloomin’ nice little Brit film, with sweet performances by Greenwell and Hughes as the posh boy who helps her. Alex Macqueen over-eggs the pudding as flower show boss Nigel Hogg, but Janie Dee, Christine Marzano and Lorna Quinn all do the biz the support. The retro-type film’s heart is located back in a long-ago era, the Forties or Fifties maybe, but then so is the Chelsea Flower Show.
