Director Hideo Nakata’s 2002 Japanese horror movie focuses on a single mother (Hitomi Kuroki) and her five-year-old daughter (Rio Kanno) who move into a new apartment, where seeping water is a problem.
Although there’s water dripping in from the flat above, nobody seems to live there. But is that a child who can be heard running around?
This Japanese-style Don’t Look Now is not scary or even surprising at all. You’ll be asking ‘what was that about?’ afterwards.
The best advice is, if you want to see damp in the bathroom, just take a shower!
Based on a novel by Kôji Suzuki, it is written by Ken’ichi Suzuki and Yoshihiro Nakamura, and comes from the director of Ringu [The Ring] (1998), also based on a novel by Suzuki.
It is shot by Jun’ichirô Hayashi, produced by Takashige Ichise, scored by Kenji Kawai and Shikao Suga, and designed by Katsumi Nakazawa.
It also features Mirei Oguchi, Asamai Mizukawaw, Fumiyo Kohinata, Yu Tokui, Isao Yatsu and Shigemitsu Ogi.
