Director Bradford May’s 1994 Grand Guignol horror comic sequel to Darkman (1990) is entertaining enough, with Arnold Vosloo an adequate replacement for Liam Neeson as the scientist-shadowy avenger Darkman, who was all but killed when beaten and hideously mutilated by Durant’s gruesome thugs searching for his cloning formula.
As the title suggests, Larry Drake is back as the evil Robert G Durant, who, after remaining in a coma for several years, suddenly reawakens, eager to take over the city’s drug trade. But the ever-elusive Darkman is ready to do battle and put a stop to Durant forever.
It is written by Robert Eisele and Steven McKay, shot by Bradford May, produced by Sam Raimi, Robert G Tapert and David Roessell, scored by Randy Miller and designed by Ian Brock.
Also in the cast are Kim Delaney, Renée O’Connor, Lawrence Dane, Jesse Collins, David Ferry, Rod Wilson, Jack Langeduk, Sten Eirik, Steve Mousseau and James Millington.
It made a trilogy when a third movie followed: Darkman III: Die Darkman Die (1996), also with Arnold Vosloo as Darkman.
