Kevin Kline stars as gay composer Cole Porter, who reviews his career and life with his understanding wife, Linda (Ashley Judd) in director Irwin Winkler’s dramatically intriguing, highly tuneful musical biopic. Both stars give supremely stylish performances, putting extra shine on an already polished movie.
Jonathan Pryce also stars, Allan Corduner is Porter’s actor lover Monty Woolley, Peter Polycarpou is MGM studio boss Louis B Mayer and Keith Allen is a very unlikely Irving Berlin.
The story was previously told, less frankly, in Night and Day (1946), with Cary Grant and Alexis Smith.
