FBI agent Warren Stantin (Sidney Poitier) and mountain guide and expert tracker Jonathan Knox (Tom Berenger) team up to track an evil killer in Roger Spottiswoode’s tough, well-made 1988 action thriller Deadly Pursuit [Shoot to Kill].
Kirstie Alley plays Berenger’s girlfriend Sarah Rennell, and she leads the hunting party in which the villain has hidden himself.
The action is sharp and exciting, the acting is first rate and, though the plot gets a little wayward and unconvincing, Spottiswoode’s flashy, fast-paced direction keeps it entertaining.
Also in the cast are Clancy Brown, Frederick Coffin, Richard Masur, Andrew Robinson, Kevin Scannell, Michael MacRae, Robert Lesser, Milton Selzer, Les Lannom, Walter Marsh, Frank C Turner and Sam Hiona.
It is written by Harv Zimmell (story and screenplay), Michael Burton (screenplay) and Daniel Petrie Jr (screenplay).
Poitier returned to the screen after a decade-long absence since 1977’s A Piece of the Action.
