Director Peter R Hunt’s lusty 1981 action adventure Death Hunt is based on a true story and stars Charles Bronson, Lee Marvin, Angie Dickinson, Andrew Stevens, Ed Lauter and Carl Weathers.
Death Hunt is one for the Bronson-Marvin action fans as veteran Canadian Mountie Sergeant Millen (Marvin) mounts a cross-Canada police manhunt in the wilderness in 1931 for US trapper Albert Johnson (Bronson), who has gone to the Yukon to start a new life but been publicly accused of murder in a feud with dog-fight dog owner Hazel (Ed Lauter).
It is nothing out of the ordinary perhaps, but there is much to recommend it with a good story, an excellent cast, great scenery and some tough action sequences, with especially good roles for Bronson and Marvin, both on strong form.
Also in the cast are Henry Beckman, Scott Hylands, William Sanderson, Dick Davalos, Maury Chaykin, August Schellenberg, Jon Cedar, Len Lesser, James O’Connell and Sean McCann.
Death Hunt is directed by Peter R Hunt, runs 97 minutes, is made by Golden Harvest Company and Northshore Investments, is released by 2oth Century Fox, is written by Michael Grais and Mark Victor, is shot by James Devis, is produced by Murray Shostak and is scored by Jerrold Immel.
