Co-writer/ director Carl Colpaert’s 1991 film noir crime thriller Delusion stars Jim Metzler, Jennifer Rubin, Kyle Secor, Jerry Orbach, Tracey Walter and Robert Costanzo.
Dodgy computer wizard George O’Brien (Metzler), a half-million dollar embezzler from his firm, meets a Las Vegas showgirl called Patti (Rubin) and her psychotic boyfriend hitman lover Chevy (Secor) on the road to Reno, where he plans to start his own computer firm. The embezzler is driving through the Nevada desert when picks up the duo after their vehicle crashes. The boyfriend has no plans to let the embezzler get away with the stolen cash.
Cue an extremely edgy, stylish, sweaty-palm thriller, with great Death Valley backdrops and unforgettably crazed performances.
Delusion is weird but pretty wonderful low-budget film-making. The involved plot and nervy performances make for a very striking thriller.
Also in the cast are Kevin West, Darryl Cox, Angelina Fiordellisi, Barbara Horan, Richard Jordan, and Tamara Landry.
Carl-Jan Colpaert was born in Belgium, attended the American Film Institute, and started his career as a film editor for Roger Corman. Colpaert made his directorial debut in 1991 with Delusion, which he co-writes with Kurt Voss.
Rubin made her film debut as Taryn White in the 1987 horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors.
