Writer-director Jacques Audiard won his first Palme d’Or award in May 2015 for Dheepan, a drama about a Sri Lankan Tamil warrior who flees to France with two strangers – a woman and a little girl -and ends up working as a caretaker in a run-down housing block in the suburbs outside Paris..
He works to build a new life for the three of them but the daily violence he confronts reopens his war wounds.
Jesuthasan Antonythasan stars as Dheepan, with Kalieaswari Srinivasan as Yalini. They both make their screen debuts.
Audiard is the writer-director of The Beat That My Heart Skipped, A Prophet and Rust and Bone.
