Producer-director Barry Levinson’s thought-provoking 1994 thriller stars Michael Douglas as happily married computer expert Tom Sanders, whose expected promotion goes to ambitious Demi Moore, an old flame, who sexually harasses him. All hell lets loose when, rejected, she tries to sue him, and he tries to counter-sue her.
This controversial, intelligent role-reversal, big-business thriller is an involving, tense, provocative version of the Michael Crichton bestselling novel, with both stars well cast and on their best form.
Long but involving, it offers a well-drawn atmosphere of sexual and social tension and a good sense of the over-ambitious downside of empty corporate America.
The cast also includes Donald Sutherland, Rosemary Forsyth, Caroline Goodall, Roma Maffia, Dylan Baker and Dennis Miller. Crichton sold the movie rights for $1 million before the novel was published. The movie was filmed in and around Seattle, Washington. The fictional corporation DigiCom is located in Pioneer Square.
It was a huge hit, grossing $214million worldwide against a budget of $55 million.
