Down to You ** (2000, Freddie Prinze Jr, Julia Stiles, Selma Blair) – Classic Movie Review 1758

Writer-director Kris Isacsson’s 2000 effort is a sweet, light-weight, warm-hearted romantic comedy and relationship movie in which a nice, sympathetic guy wins and loses his first serious love of his life.

Freddie Prinze Jr stars as Al Connelly, a sophomore college student in New York City, who meets the girl of his dreams, freshman Imogen (Julia Stiles).

It seems like true love but Imogen’s fear of losing her carefree youth pushes her away from Al, and they separate. Al desperately tries to forget her, but…

Selma Blair, Shawn Hatosy, Zak Orth, Ashton Kutcher, Rosario Dawson, Henry Winkler, Lucie Arnaz and Lauren German also star. This very good cast help the film over some of its scripting bumps.

The effortlessly charming Prinze Jr was flavour of the month at the time, winning the 2000 Teen Choice Actor Award. His films like this were small but profitable. On a $9million cost it earned back $20million in the US alone.
