In Fifties Somerset, England, Eva (Samatha Morton) is looking after her forgetful dad (Frank Finlay) and living with her crazy farmer lover Harry (Lee Ross), but loves her childhood sweetheart Joseph Lees (Rupert Graves).
Director Eric Styles’s 1999 British debut film Dreaming of Joseph Lees is a flimsy and fey experience, but the good acting from the formidable Graves, Morton and Finlay helps this unconvincing romance to be rather less of a trial than it would be otherwise.
Also in the cast are Nicholas Woodeson, Felix Billson, Lauren Richardson, Vernon Dobtcheff, Miriam Margolyes, Holly Aird, Freddy Douglas, Richie Tongé, Harry Selby, Juan Thomas and Emma Cunniffe.
Dreaming of Joseph Lees is directed by Eric Styles, runs 92 minutes, is made by Christopher Milburn Production, Midsummer Films, Isle of Man Film Commission and Fox Searchlight Pictures, is released by 20th Century Fox, is written by Catherine Linstrum, is shot by Jimmy Dibling, is produced by Christopher Milburn, is scored by Zbigniew Preisner and is designed by Humphrey Jaeger.
In 2017, Styles is the director of John Hurt’s final film That Good Night.
