Dunston Checks In *** (1996, Jason Alexander, Rupert Everett, Faye Dunaway) – Classic Movie Review 3869

Director Ken Kwapis’s daft 1996 family adventure comedy stars Jason Alexander as luxurious Majestic Hotel manager Robert Grant, who can handle anything – until thieving orangutan Dunston checks in.

Rupert Everett is classy as the crooked Lord Rutledge, who teaches the ape to steal gems in this engaging and funny slice of madcap monkey mayhem, written by John Hopkins from his own story.

Dunston Checks In offers all this carefree happy monkey business nonsense, plus cute kids Eric Lloyd and Graham Sack as the manager’s children Kyle and Brian, and the legendary Faye Dunaway as the hotel’s owner, Mrs Dubrow. Also in the cast are Paul Reubens as Buck LaFarge, Glenn Shadix as Lionel Spalding and Nathan Davis as Victor Dubrow.

Scenes were filmed at the old Bullocks Wilshire Building in Los Angeles and at the Dorchester Hotel in London.
