Director Wayne Wang’s 1989 Eat a Bowl of Tea is a gently amusing, telling and well acted 1940s-set romantic comedy drama about the family troubles of a young Chinese-American, Ben Loy (Russell Wong), when he brings home his Chinese-born bride, Mei Oi (Cora Miao) to New York.
