Hot-rods racing, fast vehicles chasing, slapstick comedy and adolescent boys moaning make up Eat My Dust! (1976), a daft and disappointing cars-and-girls road movie from producer Roger Corman and scriptwriter turned director Charles B Griffith.
Local lawman Sheriff Niebold (Warren J Kemmerling) gets up an auto posse to chase his son Hoover Niebold (Ron Howard) and his blonde buddy Darlene Kurtz (Christopher Norris), who have nabbed Big Bubba Jones (Dave Madden)’s race car.
Ron Howard (one of the last actors in the world you would choose to ‘pump the clutch and tell the world Eat My Dust!’) shows why he turned to a directing career as the film grinds to a halt whenever his personal problems come to the fore.
There is a quota of decent stunt action, but it is been done bigger and better before, though it does gain favour for its excellently silly title.
Also in the cast are Brad David, Jessica Potter, Charles Howerton, Kathy O’Dare, Rance Howard, Clint Howard, Corbin Bernsen, Paul Bartel, Kedric Wolfe, John Kramer, W L Luckey, and Robert Broyles.
It was shot in four weeks to shoot. Ron Howard filmed for 10 days and a stand-in drove his car for the rest of the filming.
Christopher Norris is an actress born on October 7, 1953 in New York City.
Ron Howard followed it with Grand Theft Auto (1977).
