Director Jon Amiel’s very sprightly, enjoyably old-style 1999 caper thriller finds Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta Jones proving a well-paired star team.
Connery plays Mac, an ageing art thief, and she’s Gin, a sexy young insurance company investigator determined to nail him. Cheeky and cheery, this globehopping number is effortlessly acted and stylishly directed as it moves glossily from New York via Scotland to its climax in Malaysia, and it is one of Connery’s better later vehicles.
The thrilling highlight action sequence has the couple hanging under a walkway between Kuala Lumpur’s Petronas Twin Towers.
Ronald Bass and William Broyles Jr make a good job of the screenplay from a story by Bass and Michael Hertzberg.
Ving Rhames, Will Patton, Maury Chaykin, Kevin McNally, Terry O’Neill and David Yip also star.
