Eraser **½ (1996, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Vanessa Williams, James Caan, James Coburn, Robert Pastorelli, John Cromwell, Danny Nucci, Andy Romano) – Classic Movie Review 3935

Director Chuck Russell’s acceptable 1996 action thriller stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as US Marshal John ‘The Eraser’ Kruger, who is sent to protect Dr Lee Cullen (Vanessa Williams), an employee of a maker of secret military weapons.

She is the key witness in the FBI’s case against a plot in the company. Bringing her to New York, Arnie soon finds the villain, Marshal Robert DeGuerin (James Caan).

This is a surprisingly ordinary, basic action thriller from Arnie in his prime, but it is greatly enlivened with non-stop action. The star is on pretty good form and there is an especially lively turn from Caan.

Also in the cast are James Coburn, Robert Pastorelli, John Cromwell, Danny Nucci, Andy Romano, Nick Chinlund, Michael Papajohn, Joe Viterelli, Mark Rolston, Robert Miranda, Roma Maffia, Tony Longo, John Snyder, Ismael East Carlo, Tommy J Huff, Rick Batalla, Michael Gregory, Gerry Becker, John Slattery, Melora Walters and Olek Krupa.

Charles ‘Chuck’ Russell is also known for A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) The Blob (1988), The Mask (1994) and The Scorpion King (2002).
