Director Stuart Baird’s hokey but often nail-biting 1996 edge-of-seat action thriller stars Kurt Russell, who is on his best form as a reluctant action hero.
He is forced to board and tackle the Arab terrorists who control a 747 plane flying with a deadly nerve gas aboard trained on Washington.
It may be a shade over-long at 133 minutes, but it is still gripping and entertaining for all the trip. With a screenplay by Jim Thomas and John Thomas, it does find some novelties among all the action clichés, even though the ‘characters’ are mostly caricatures.
Also in a varied, surprising cast are Steven Seagal, Halle Berry, John Leguiziamo, Oliver Platt, Joe Morton, David Suchet, J T Walsh, Nicholas Pryor, Len Cariou, B D Wong, Whip Hubley,.Marla Maples, Nicholas Pryor, Eugene Roche and Chris Maher.
