‘The beat is the wildest! The blast is the craziest!… and the fun is where you find it!’
Director Sidney Hayers’s 1966 Finders Keepers stars Cliff Richard, who is helped out by experienced Morley (who also appeared in Cliff’s 1961 The Young Ones) and Peggy Mount (as Mrs Bragg) in this feeble musical comedy about Cliff and the Shadows arriving in a small Spanish town for a concert and finding that an American bomb has been accidentally dropped on Spain and that the hotel they are to stay at is understandably empty.
Blackmailed by dastardly spy Mr X (John le Mesurier), the hotelier, Colonel Roberts (Morley), plots to pinch the bomb, but our heroes put a stop to his little game and try to get it back to the Americans.
There is forgettable comedy, and forgettable songs too, leaving only the game performances to leave a little lingering smile on the face. It is not a patch on Summer Holiday or The Young Ones.
The Shadows are Hank B Marvin, Bruce Welch, Brian Bennett and John Rostill.
Also in the cast are Viviane Ventura, Graham Stark, Robert Hutton, Ellen Pollock, Ernest Clark, Ronnie Brodie, Mark Colleano, Bill Mitchell, George Roderick, Gordon Ruttan, and Burnell Tucker.
Michael Pertwee’s screenplay is based on a rather silly story by the film’s producer George H Brown.
It was shot at Pinewood Studios, Iver Heath, Buckinghamshire, England, and on location in Spain.
