The 1997 film Fools Rush In stars Matthew Perry, who is amusing and appealing in this lightweight and enjoyable big-screen romantic comedy outing for the likeable Friends star.

Director Andy Tennant’s 1997 film Fools Rush In stars Matthew Perry, who is amusing and appealing in this lightweight and enjoyable big-screen romantic comedy outing for the likeable Friends star.

He plays a New York builder called Alex, who has a one-night stand with Mexican Las Vegas photographer Isabel (Salma Hayek), leading to a disastrous shotgun marriage, infuriated and meddling in-laws, separation – and eventually, of course, romance.

The cast is good, with Hayek on good form, the script by Katherine Reback is not at all bad and the direction fairly nimble, resulting in perhaps Perry’s best movie, though unfortunately that is not saying too much. Shelley Morrison, the razor-tongued maid Rosario in Will & Grace, plays Aunt Carmen.

Also in the cast are Jon Tenney, Carlos Gómez, Jill Clayburgh, John Bennett Perry, Tomas Milian, Siobhan Fallon, Stanley DeSantis, Suzanna Snyder, Anne Betancourt, Angelina Calderón Torres, Annie Combs, Shelley Morrison, Mareia Cellario, Irene Hernández, and Josh Cruze.

American actor John Bennett Perry (born 1941), is Matthew Perry’s father, playing the father of his son’s character. He again appeared the father of his son’s character in an episode of the sitcom Scrubs. He played in an episode of Friends, The One with Rachel’s New Dress, as the father of Rachel’s boyfriend Joshua.

RIP Shelley Morrison, who died on 1 December 2019, aged 83. She decided to retire after 2012 and politely declined when asked to return to the Will & Grace show when it was revived in 2017.

Matthew Perry (August 19, 1969 – October 28, 2023) made his big screen debut in the 1988 film A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon and later starred in Fools Rush In (1997), Almost Heroes (1998), Three to Tango (1999), The Whole Nine Yards (2000), Serving Sara (2002), The Whole Ten Yards (2005), and 17 Again (2009), his final film role.

On October 28, 2023, Los Angeles police found him dead in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home aged 54, apparently drowned, with no sign of drugs or foul play.
