Director Ang Lee’s teasing and tantalising sci-fi action thriller Gemini Man offers great action, brilliant CGI, strong spy atmosphere, and two Will Smiths, one a retired hitman, Henry Brogan, and the other his younger clone Junior, who is out to kill him.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays Danny Zakarweski, the agent who risks her life helping Brogan, Clive Owen plays the oily and treacherous boss Clay Verris, and Benedict Wong enjoys the comedy part and the film’s funny lines as Brogan’s buddy Baron.
The movie’s good points of the clones idea, the story line, the neo noir atmosphere, the CGI and the performances win out over some long, slow, talky patches, with indifferent dialogue, and Clive Owen’s unconvincing performance. And it looks smart on the 3D IMAX screen.
The writers are David Benioff and Darren Lemke (story and screenplay) and Billy Ray (screenplay).
