Writer-director Joel Hershman’s Greenfingers stars Clive Owen as prisoner Colin Briggs, who is moved to an open jail, where his friendship with a dying Irish convict, Fergus Wilks (David Kelly), leads to a passion for growing flowers.
He takes on a project for gardener Georgina Woodhouse (Helen Mirren) and falls for her daughter Primrose (Natasha Little), and is encouraged to enter a national gardening competition..
This well-acted, nicely written rare bloom of a movie, based on a true story, is an entertaining heartwarmer that is likely to grow on you. David Kelly is outstanding.
Warren Clarke plays the governor, and Danny Dyer, Adam Fogerty and Lucy Punch co-star.
