Director Mel Damski’s 1989 American romantic comedy film Happy Together is a sweet little romancer, just a tad over-predictable and underpowered, but with appealingly winsome performances from the young star couple Patrick Dempsey and Helen Slater as uni room sharers put together in one of those usual contrived movie-plot errors.

Patrick Dempsey plays Christopher Wooden, a serious-minded young man from Chicago. Enrolling into college in LA as a freshman, Christopher finds his roommate is Alex (Helen Slater), a woman from Park Avenue, New York City. A computer error has put them together and now he can’t find another place to live because the dorms are full.

Look out for a pre-stardom Brad Pitt as Brian.

It was released on 4 May 1989 (US) to astoundingly little effect, taking only $75,657 at the box office.
