He Knows You’re Alone ** (1980, Don Scardino, Caitlin O’Heaney, Elizabeth Kemp, Tom Rolfing, Lewis Arlt, James Rebhorn, Tom Hanks) – Classic Movie Review 8363

Director Armand Mastroianni’s 1980 low budget horror thriller He Knows You’re Alone is a cheap regulation slasher movie about the usual serial killer monster (Tom Rolfing) going after young women with a knife, as one of them, Amy Jensen (Caitlin O’Heaney), is about to get married reluctantly.

This particular nutter kills only brides and their friends. Meanwhile Amy (O’Heaney) is wavering between her chauvinist husband-to-be and old boyfriend Marvin (Don Scardino), a morgue worker and practical joker, who can help her against the killer. A detective, whose bride had been killed years before, tries to hunt the killer.

He Knows You’re Alone is less gory than some of its slasher kind, and is creepy rather than graphic, though it still violent, and a man murders a woman, a man is stabbed to death with a pair of scissors, there is a stabbing of a woman through the back with a knife and of course blood.

It is Tom Hanks’s movie début, aged 24, as Elliot. Also in the cast are Elizabeth Kemp as Nancy, Lewis Arlt as Detective Len Gamble, Patsy Pease as Joyce, James Rebhorn as Professor Carl Mason, Dana Barron, Paul Gleason, Joseph Leon, James Carroll, Brian Byers, Curt Hostetter, Robin Lamont, Robin Tilghman and John Bottoms.
