Tom Conti stars as Vic Mathews, the remedial teacher in a Roman Catholic school in Glasgow whose ‘miracles’ arouse large-scale media interest.
This deft and delightful 1986 satire on the pitfalls of modern religion is lightened by writer-director Charles Gormley’s sensitive script and the underplaying of stars Conti and Helen Mirren as Conti’s romantically inclined co-worker in the music department, Ruth.
Also in the cast are David Hayman, Brian Pettifer, Ewen Bremner and Jennifer Black.
It is also known as The Gospel According to Vic.
