Director Gregory Plotkin’s Halloween-style slasher movie Hell Fest finds a generic masked serial killer terrorising a group of fairly dim friends at a horror-themed amusement park for no particular reason.
Alas the screenplay by Seth M Sherwood, Blair Butler and Akela Cooper, based on a story by William Penick and Christopher Sey, finds no new ground whatever, with the scares very predictable, so therefore not scary, and the young cast of Bex Taylor-Klaus, Reign Edwards, Amy Forsyth and Christian James give none too winning performances, so you hardly care about their survival or otherwise.
Also with its echoes of The Funhouse, it all feels a bit dull and stale, though it starts brightly enough, it is quite well produced and the Hell Fest amusement park is atmospherically conjured up. As a production, it is a smooth enough ride, and die-hard slasher movie fans are catered for.
