Co-writer/ director Leo Garen’s 1973 Hex stars Keith Carradine, Gary Busey, Scott Glenn, Cristina Raines [Tina Herazo], Robert Walker Jr, John Carradine and Dan Haggerty.
It is a terrible Seventies motorbike movie, set between the First World War and the Second World War, in which ex-World War One flyers Nebraska Hell’s Angels ride into the small town of Bingo and meet a Satanist cult, and mortal trouble is set off by biker Gary Busey’s bid to attack Cristina Raines.
Despite an interesting cast, and its wish to follow in the bike tracks of Easy Rider, it was never any good in the first place, and it certainly hasn’t aged well.
Keith Carradine stars as Whizzer and his dad John Carradine pops in as the old gunfighter. Shot in 1971, the film is Keith Carradine’s starring debut.
Also in the cast are Hilarie Thompson, Mike Combs, Doria Cook, Tom Jones (actor), Iggie Wolfington, Pat Blymyer [Pat Blymer], Billy Ellison, Richard Stockton.
Hex is directed by Leo Garen, runs 92 minutes, is made by Max L Raab Productions and 20th Century Fox, is released by 20th Century Fox, is written by Leo Garen and Steve Katz [Stephen Katz], from a story by Doran William Cannon and Vernon Zimmerman, is shot by Charles Rosher Jr, is produced by Max L Raab, is scored by Charles Bernstein and Patrick Williams, and is designed by Frank Paul Sylos.
RIP Robert Walker Jr, who died on 5 aged 79. He was the son of Robert Walker and Jennifer Jones. His parents separated in the middle of the production of Since You Went Away (1944) when he was only three. Walker Jr appeared with his wife Ellie in Easy Rider.
