High-Ballin’ ** (1978, Peter Fonda, Jerry Reed, Helen Shaver, Chris Wiggins) – Classic Movie Review 9002

Director Peter Carter’s uninspired, over-familiar-seeming 1978 action adventure High-Ballin’ stars Peter Fonda, Jerry Reed (from Smokey and the Bandit) and Helen Shaver as truckers fighting off the bad guys who want to put them out of business. Big boss King Carroll (Chris Wiggins), who runs a big trucking company, will do anything to keep the little independent guys off the road.

Paul F Edwards’s routine screenplay and some lazy acting combine to keep it low-achievin’, though Carter’s robust handling, a lot of action, Fonda as Rane and Reed as the Iron Duke, and Helen Shaver’s turn as Pickup, help to compensate and to give it a lift.

Also in the cast are David Ferry, Chris Langevin, Harvey Atkin and Leslie Carlson.

High-Ballin’ is directed by Peter Carter, runs 100 minutes, is made by Stanley Chase Productions, American International Pictures and Pando Company, is released by American International Pictures (1978) (US), is written by Paul F Edwards, based on a story by Richard Robinson and Stephen Schneck, is shot by René Verzier, is produced by Jan Slan and is scored by Paul Hoffert.
