Director Carl Franklin’s 2002 thriller stars Ashley Judd as a high-flying lawyer Claire Kubik, who is shocked and her idyllic life is shattered when her ex-marine husband Tom (Jim Caviezel) is arrested by the military and is revealed to be Sergeant Ron Chapman. He’s put on trial for old army crimes, accused of killing innocent villagers in El Salvador.
Judd and Morgan Freeman, as her canny old fellow defender Charles W Grimes, bring style and class to a surprisingly mediocre, predictable yarn, with a screenplay by Yuri Zeltser and Cary Bickley, based on the novel by Joseph Finder.
Adam Scott (as Lieutenant Terrence Embry), Amanda Peet, Bruce Davison (as Brigadier General Bill Marks), Tom Bower, Juan Carlos Hernández, Michael Gaston, Jude Ciccolella, Michael Shannon and John Billingsley co-star.
