Hollow is a surprisingly satisfactory British horror film, with debut director Michael Axelgaard managing a slightly fresh take on the tired old Blair Witch found footage idea.
Screenwriter Matthew Holt’s story concerns the site of an old monastery in remote Suffolk. Left in ruins, the spot is marked only by a twisted, antique tree with an ominous hollow. Two holidaying young couples decide to explore the local legend and get into a lot of terror when they uncover the ancient evil of Greyfriar’s Hollow.
Plot, character development, acting and direction are all well taken care of, and there are some nicely executed big shocks. It stars Emily Plumtree as Emma, Sam Stockman as James, Jessica Ellerby as Lynne and Matt Stokoe as Scott.
Stockman’s most notable acting role is as DC Emerson Kent in the UK TV crime drama Whitechapel from 2009. He is also a member of the band Colour of Bone.
