Director George Waggner’s run-of-the-mill 1941 Universal comedy chiller is set in a fog-swathed, spooky castle where B-movie actors are cast as daffy adventurers who are bumped off as they search for treasure.
There are some but not too many laughs in Maurice Tombragel and Victor McLeod’s all-too-obvious screenplay and in the over-broad performances.
The too familiar tale, based on the story Terror of the South Seas by Alex Gottlieb, is commendably very brief at 62 minutes and has the virtue at least of being taken at speed, though. So there is not enough time for it to get boring.
It stars Dick Foran as entrepreneur Bill Martin, Fuzzy Knight as his sidekick Stuff Oliver, Leo Carrillo as Tobias Clump and Peggy Moran as Wendy Creighton.
Also in the cast are John Eldredge, Walter Catlett, Hobart Cavanaugh, Lewis Howard, Ralf Harolde, Iris Adrian, Fay Van Dolson and Emmett Vogan.
It is shot in black and white by Elwood Bredell and produced by Ben Pivar.
