Director Jim Abrahams’s 1993 Hot Shots! Part Deux brings back Charlie Sheen as Topper Harley when US president Tug Benson (Lloyd Bridges) sends a commando team into Iraq to rescue the men who went in to rescue the men.
Globetrotting from the jungles of Thailand to the bedrooms of Washington, Topper must rescue hostages from a heavily fortified prison.
This robust send-up of Rambo (and other war movies, plus RoboCop, Terminator 2 and Commando) is happily complete with the three original Hot Shots! stars, Charlie Sheen, Lloyd Bridges and Valeria Golino, plus Richard Crenna, who played Trautman in all three original Rambo films, as Colonel Denton Walters.
Hot Shots! Part Deux is a funny sequel to the often hilarious 1991 original Hot Shots!. Abrahams’s crowd-pleasing aviator spoof successfully serves up more scattergun high-jinks in the popular Airplane! style. Sheen, Bridges and Rowan Atkinson enter engagingly into the film’s numskull spirit, while the Rambo-parody belly laughs are always bang on target.
Also in the cast are Brenda Bakke, Miguel Ferrer, Jerry Haleva (returning as Saddam Hussein), Mitchell Ryan, Michael Colyar, Ryan Stiles and David Wohl.
It is written again by Jim Abrahams and Pat Proft.
