Gianni Garko [John Garko] again stars as Sartana in director Giuliano Carnimeo’s particularly violent 1969 Spaghetti Western I Am Sartana, Your Angel of Death [Sono Sartana, il vostro becchino] [Sartana, Angel of Death] about a landowner and sheriff (Sal Borgese) who are accused of bank robbery. Soon Sartana is accused of robbing the bank so he sets out to find the real robbers, while bounty killers seek to claim the reward on his head.
There is plenty of anarchic atmosphere and some impressive action, and Garko is strong as the cool central character, but the movie is spoiled by the dubbing, ragged acting and shaky direction. Klaus Kinski co-stars as gambling-addicted bounty killer Hot Dead and he is always worth a look though.
Also in the cast are Frank Wolff as Buddy Ben, Ettore Manni, Gordon Mitchell, Sal Borgese, Renato Baldini, José Torres and Federico Boido.
The original Italian title Sono Sartana, il vostro becchino translates as I’m Sartana, your gravedigger.
The director is credited as Anthony Ascott.
It follows If You Meet Sartana… Pray for Your Death (1968) and is followed by Sartana’s Here… Trade Your Pistol for a Coffin (1970), Have a Good Funeral, My Friend… Sartana Will Pay (1970) and Light the Fuse… Sartana Is Coming (1970).
Kinski was also in the first official entry of the Sartana movie series, If You Meet Sartana… Pray for Your Death (1968), playing Morgan.
