If Lucy Fell *** (1996, Sarah Jessica Parker, Eric Schaeffer, Ben Stiller, Elle Macpherson, Scarlett Johansson) – Classic Movie Review 5003

Co-writer/ director/ star Eric Schaeffer’s 1996 romantic comedy drama can boast an impressive cast that includes Sarah Jessica Parker, Ben Stiller, Elle Macpherson, Eric Schaeffer, James Rebhorn (1948–2014), Robert John Burke, David Thornton, Bill Sage, Dominic Chianese and a very young Scarlett Johansson (just 12 in her fourth film).

Two friends Lucy and Joe (Parker, Schaeffer) battle through the New York singles scene in a bid to find true love, and face the challenge of the suicide pact they made years earlier to jump off the Brooklyn Bridge if they fail to find love in a month. Joe has an infatuation with the lovely Jane Lindquist (Macpherson), a neighbour he has never actually met, but his spying telescope relationship with her isn’t getting him anywhere.

As written by Schaeffer and Tony Spridakis, it comes over as appealing but a bit aimless. However, it remains a likeable movie and the very nice cast gives it the lift it needs.

Also in the cast are Michael Storms, Jason Myers, Emily Hart (in her debut) and Paul Greco.

It runs 95 minutes, is produced by MPCA, is released by TriStar, is shot by Ron Fortunato, is produced by Bradley Jenkel, Brad Krevoy and Steven Stabler, and is scored by Amanda Kravat and Chearlton Pettus.
