Sigourney Weaver and Jeff Daniels star as Sandy and Ben Travis, who desperately try to come to terms with their swimming champion son’s suicide, while the younger brother, Tim (Emile Hirsch), flails around in his dead brother’s shadow, lost, bullied and alienated.
Leading the smart cast, the under-valued Weaver acts her socks off in writer-director Dan Harris’s superb, provocative 2004 black comedy in the rich and strange vein of Wonder Boys and American Beauty.
Also in the cast are Michelle Williams, Kip Pardue, Ryan Donowho, Suzanne Santo and Jay Paulson.
Harris waited 14 years to direct his next film – Speech & Debate (2017). He wrote the screenplay of X-Men 2 and Superman Returns, and the story of X-Men: Apocalypse.
