Director Steven C Miller’s In the Line of Duty [Line of Duty] is a good, solid, entertaining action thriller, propelled with an intriguing, unusual premise, interesting characters, and some witty banter in the dialogue. The story by Jeremy Drysdale is well plotted and involving. The reliable film is efficient, unpretentious and tidy.
Aaron Eckhart is very well employed and convincing as disgraced cop Frank Penny, racing against time to try to save the police chief (Giancarlo Esposito)’s kidnapped 11-year-old daughter, with the help of young vlogger Ava Brooks (Courtney Eaton) and her live-streaming news channel. Penny has been stripped of his badge and his gun after killing a child abductor, whose brother is now out for revenge.
It was released in the US as Line of Duty on 15 November 2019 and in the UK as In the Line of Duty on 3 January 2020.
