It’s a Great Feeling *** (1949, Dennis Morgan, Doris Day, Jack Carson) – Classic Movie Review 7691

Director David Butler’s offbeat 1949 Hollywood satire It’s a Great Feeling stars Jack Carson and Dennis Morgan as themselves trying to turn Warner Bros commissary waitress Judy Adams (Doris Day) into a star by getting her noticed by a smug producer (Bill Goodwin).

Day’s character Judy Adams decides to wed the boy from back home, Jeffrey Bushfinkle (Errol Flynn), who is a dead ringer for the real Errol Flynn!

The splendidly entertaining star trio ensures that the amiable script by Jack Rose and Melville Shavelson (from a story by I A L Diamond) is a lot of fun, and the comedy is backed up by a number of pleasing tunes. Jule Styne (music) and Sammy Cahn (lyrics) were Oscar nominated for the song ‘It’s a Great Feeling’.

As well as that, there is a bonus in the guest star appearances of many of the Warner Bros contract players and other stars (Gary Cooper, Joan Crawford, Sydney Greenstreet, Danny Kaye, Patricia Neal, Edward G Robinson, Jane Wyman, Eleanor Parker, Ronald Reagan) and directors (King Vidor, Michael Curtiz, Raoul Walsh, and David Butler), plus The Famous Mazzone-Abbott Dancers.

It is advertised as an all-happiness musical, and it is.

Also in the cast are Irving Bacon, Claire Carleton, Harlan Warde, Jacqueline DeWit, Wilfred Lucas, Pat Flaherty, Wendy Lee, Sue Casey and Nita Talbot.

It’s a Great Feeling runs 85 minutes, is made and released by Warner Bros, is written by Jack Rose and Melville Shavelson, from a story by I A L Diamond, is shot in Technicolor by Wilfrid M Cline, produced by Alex Gottlieb, and is scored by Ray Heindorf.
