Mayhem and murder ensue when there are six rivals for a family estate in writer-director Lewis R Foster’s routine, production-line 1953 Caribbean ocean-going mystery action thriller Jamaica Run.
Ray Milland stars as schooner captain Patrick Fairlie, who sails to the inevitable and rather inconsequential rescue at the behest of lady-in-peril Ena Dacey (Arlene Dahl), who is being terrorised by William Montague (Patric Knowles) to gain her estate inheritance.
The main problems are glum acting and Foster’s uninspired script, based on Max Murray’s novel The Neat Little Corpse. But the eye-catching shooting in Technicolor by Lionel Lindon is an asset, even if most of it in the Paramount Studios, at 5555 Melrose Avenue, Hollywood, Los Angeles.
Also in the cast are Wendell Corey, Patric Knowles, Laura Elliot, Carroll McComas, Bill Walker [William Walker], Murray Matheson, Clarence Muse, Robert Warwick, Rex Evans and Lester Matthews.
Jamaica Run is directed by Lewis R Foster, runs 92 minutes, is made by Pine-Thomas Productions and Clarion Productions, is released by Paramount, is written by Lewis R Foster, is shot in Technicolor by Lionel Lindon, is produced by William H Pine and William C Thomas, and is scored by Lucien Cailliet.
