Martin Short stars as obese TV host and culture critic Jiminy Glick, who gets tied up in a murder case at the Toronto Film Festival, in director Vadim Jean’s relatively amusing Canadian comedy, a soft parody of the movie and television industries.
Short’s fans will appreciate the oddball humour and film fans will enjoy the movie world in-jokes. Obviously it’s a niche market comedy, but it might find it has a happy-making small niche, at least as long as Short’s fans aren’t in short supply.
It also stars the good cast of Jan Hooks (1957–2014) as Dixie Glick, Linda Cardellini, Janeane Garofalo, John Michael Higgins and Elizabeth Perkins.
It’s based on sketches from TV’s The Martin Short Show and Comedy Central series Primetime Glick (2001). It was shot in 20 days, mostly in Vancouver, with dialogue improvised by the actors.
