The 1955 Swedish drama Journey into Autumn [Dreams] [Kvinnodröm] is a lesser but still intriguing and important early Ingmar Bergman film about fashion photographer Susanne (Eva Dahlbeck) and her young model Doris (Harriet Andersson)’s trip to Gothenburg for a session of photo shoots but with love on their minds.
Older Consul Otto Sönderby (Gunnar Björnstrand) and married Mr Henrik Lobelius (Ulf Palme) are the men in their lives. Inga Landgré plays Mrs Lobelius.
With a screenplay by Bergman, Journey into Autumn [Dreams] [Kvinnodröm] is slight, but the playing of all four leads is ideal and Bergman’s handling is, as ever, delicate, masterly and persuasive.
Also in the cast are Inga Landgré, Naima Wifstrand, Benkt-Åke Benktsson, Sven Lindberg, Kerstin Hedeby and Tord Stål.
Journey into Autumn [Dreams] [Kvinnodröm] is directed by Ingmar Bergman, runs 86 minutes, Sandrew, is written by Ingmar Bergman, is shot in black and white by Hilding Bladh, is produced by Rune Waldekranz and designed by Gittan Gustafsson.
