Director Lew Landers’s 1952 adventure Jungle Jim in the Forbidden Land is another in Columbia Pictures’ 16-film Jungle Jim series (1948-55), starring Johnny Weissmuller who had retired after 16 years as the screen’s most famous Tarzan, starting with Tarzan the Ape Man (1932), followed by Tarzan and His Mate (1934).
In Jungle Jim in the Forbidden Land, the eighth entry in the series, Jungle Jim sets off with scientist/ anthropologist Dr Linda Roberts (Angela Greene) and Commissioner Kingston (Lester Matthews) to find a land of giants in this further slice of cheap, cheerful and humble adventure stuff aimed at young audiences. Producer Sam Katzman provides the stock footage and cost-cutting sets.
Jungle Jim in the Forbidden Land is written for the screen by Samuel Newman, based on the newspaper feature comic Jungle Jim owned and copyrighted by King Features Syndicate and a radio show, and the character created by Alex Raymond.
Also in the cast are Jean Willes as Denise, William Tannen, George Eldredge as Fred Lewis, Frederic Berest, Clem Erickson, William Fawcett as Old One, John Hart as Commissioner’s Secretary, Frank Jaquet, Irmgard Helen H Raschke and Tamba the Chimp.
Jungle Jim in the Forbidden Land is directed by Lew Landers, runs 65 minutes, is made by The Katzman Corporation, and released by Columbia Pictures, is written by Samuel Newman, based on a comic and radio show, and the character created by Alex Raymond, is shot in black and white by Fayte M Brown, is produced by Sam Katzman and is scored by Mischa Bakaleinikoff (musical director / composer of stock music), and designed by Paul Palmentola.
Director William Berke’s 1948 adventure Jungle Jim is the first low-budget adventure in Columbia Pictures’ 16-film Jungle Jim series (1948-55). Weissmuller also did a 26-episode TV series of Jungle Jim in 1955-56.
Spencer Gordon Bennet’s 1953 Killer Ape is the twelfth Jungle Jim film.
