Director Georges Lautner’s 1985 comedy second sequel La Cage aux Folles 3: The Wedding [La cage aux folles III: ‘Elles’ se marient] is third time unlucky for the gay duo, in which drag queen Albin (Michel Serrault) must marry a woman and have a son if he is to inherit a vast fortune from a distant relative.

Serrault and Ugo Tognazzi, as Albin’s club owner lover Renato, just about keep it going, but it is an uphill struggle this time now that the material has gone stale and threadbare.

There are seven writers, including the director, but it doesn’t seem to help. They are Philippe Nicaud, Christine Carère, Marcello Danon, Jacques Audiard, Michel Audiard, Georges Lautner and Gérard Lamballe.

The third and final film of the La Cage aux Folles series, it follows La Cage aux Folles (1978) and La Cage aux Folles II (1980).

Also in the cast are Michel Galabru, Antonella Interlenghi, Benny Luke and Stéphane Audran.
