Writer-director Don McKellar’s 1998 drama Last Night is an incisive, cleverly done and capably acted Canadian oddity about a group of people gathering to face the end of the world that they are expecting immediately in just six hours at midnight at the close of the millennium.
This engrossing, intelligent, if downbeat and depressing, independently made movie is an impressive little tour-de-force by Don McKellar, who writes, directs and stars in it.
Also in the cast are Sandra Oh, Roberta Maxwell, Robin Gammell, Sarah Polley, Trent McMullen, Charmion King, Jessica Booker, David Cronenberg and Tracy Wright.
McKellar was previously married to Tracy Wright, till her death on 22 June 2010.
Toronto born McKellar is known for Last Night (1998), The Red Violin (1998) and Blindness (2008). Six films he was involved in screened at the 1998 Toronto International Film Festival.
