This delicious 1995 ensemble piece is one of co-writer/ director Henry Jaglom’s most successful outings, perfectly capturing the flavour of long but dying summer days and the character of theatrical folk.
Viveca Lindfors is magnificent as a legendary actress and matriarch of a group of family and theatrical friends who stage one last summer show in the Hamptons before selling up. Victoria Foyt plays a young Hollywood actress whose visit sets the cat among the pigeons.
It is a sad but compelling film, motoring on melancholy and compassion.
The script by Jaglom and his wife Victoria Foyt is near perfect and the film is a wonderful showcase for some neglected actors who get too little to do in movies.
Also in the cast are Martha Plimpton, Holland Taylor, André Gregory, Nick Gregory, Diane Salinger, Krisoffer Tabori, Roddy McDowall, Roscoe Lee Browne, Ron Rifkin, John Robin Baitz, Melissa Leo, Brooke Smith, Savanna Smith Boucher, Henry Jaglom, Arnold Leo, Joseph Fuery, Barbara Flood, Michael Emil, Alexandra Styron and Chris Knoblock.
It is filmed entirely on location in East Hampton, Long Island.
Victoria Foyt (born on 7 April 1958) has been married to Jaglom since 1988. Foyt and Jaglom went on to make Déja Vù (1997).
