Tilda Swinton throws her considerable weight as narrator and executive producer behind this fascinating documentary about Gertrude Bell, British adventurer, archaeologist and political mover, who helped to shape the destiny of Iraq after World War One.
The never-seen-before archival footage of the region shot a century ago is awesome. And the strong woman story’s present-day currency is both relevant and a bit eerie.
It is a very good story and Swinton is the ideal person to read Bell’s letters. It would make a great feature film, incidentally.
