Director Richard Alan Greenberg’s 1989 children’s comedy adventure Little Monsters is a cute and cheerful junior monster romp about a teenager called Brian Stevenson (Fred Savage from The Wonder Years), who traps the little monster Maurice (Howie Mandel) that lives under his bed.
Maurice is guilty of all the mishaps that the boy gets blamed for at home. They become best friends and enter an underground paradise where you can eat as much junk food as you want, are free of parents’ rules, and have to cause havoc in other children’s homes.
Mandel is monstrously amusing in this fun fantasy for teenagers, slightly marred by the uneven, too-silly script and some dodgy editing.
Also in the cast are Daniel Stern, Ben Savage, Margaret Whitton, Rick Ducommun, Amber Barretto, Frank Whaley, William Murray Weiss, Devin Ratray, J Michael Hunter and Tom Hull.
Writers: Terry Rossio and Ted Elliott.
