The 1980 British film Look Back in Anger stars Malcolm McDowell, Lisa Banes and Fran Brill, and is directed by Lindsay Anderson and David Hugh Jones. The film is based on John Osborne’s classic play, filmed in 1959 as Look Back in Anger, and it is produced by Don Boyd and distributed by Showtime.
Amiable Welsh lodger Cliff (Raymond Hardie) tries to keep the peace while working class angry young man Jimmy Porter (Malcolm McDowell) aggressively plays out his love triangle with his posh wife Alison (Lisa Banes) and her best friend Helena Charles (Fran Brill).
Lindsay Anderson, who directed Malcolm McDowell in If… and O Lucky Man!, translated Ted Craig’s Roundabout Theatre Company production to the screen, and taped it in three days. McDowell was starring in the stage production at the time.
The cast are Malcolm McDowell as Jimmy Porter, Lisa Banes as Alison Porter, Fran Brill as Helena Charles, Raymond Hardie as Cliff Lewis and Robert Burr as Colonel Redfern.
It was shown on American TV on Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) (1980) and released on video by Warner Home Video (1988) (US).
