Writer-producer-director Melvin Frank’s 1979 comedy Lost and Found brings back Glenda Jackson and George Segal in a welcome return for a rematch after Glenda’s Oscar-winning turn in A Touch of Class (1973).
Thanks to a shaky, pretty stale script, this one alas isn’t in the same class, but the entertaining stars still provide moments of traditional film comedy amusement, and there are some excellent rib-tickling scenes.
Jackson plays an English divorcée who meets college professor Segal while ski-ing and marry while on holiday in France, but when Jackson returns home she finds that marriage spoils their fun.
The film is technically a bit shoddy, with a poor score and lacklustre photography, but the support cast is boosted by jovial performances by John Candy and Martin Short, both on their way up the Hollywood ladder. Same director, writers and co-star Paul Sorvino as in A Touch of Class.
Also in the cast are Maureen Stapleton, Paul Sorvino, John Cunningham, Hollis McLaren, John Candy, Martin Short, Ken Pogue, Janie Sell, Diana Barrington, Leslie Carlson, James Morris, Bruno Engler, David Bolt, Richard Adams, Mary Price, Roger Periard, Lois Maxwell, Douglas Campbell, Cec Linder, John Bayliss, James Hurdle, Rob Garrison, Patricia Collins, Barbara Hamilton, Sandy Webster, Robert Goodier and John Anthony Robinow.
