Fascinating story, really well told. Neeson excellent.
Writer-director Peter Landesman’s riveting 2017 biographical historical drama Mark Felt: The Man Who Brought Down the White House is a fascinating story, really well told. Landesman’s screenplay is most satisfying and absorbing, and his direction bristles with intensity and tension.
Putting his action hero roles on hold, Neeson is excellent in a silver-haired character role as Mark Felt, who helped journalists Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein of the Washington Post uncover the Watergate scandal in 1972 and was later revealed as the whistle-blower ‘Deep Throat’, a former top man in the FBI dating back to the J Edgar Hoover days.
Also in the cast are Diane Lane as Mark’s wife Audrey, Marton Csokas, Tony Goldwyn, Josh Lucas, Michael C Hall, Tom Sizemore, Bruce Greenwood, Noah Wyle, Ike Barinholtz, Brian d’Arcy James, Julian Morris, Eddie Marsan and Wayne Pére.
The Woodward and Bernstein story was told in the classic All the President’s Men (1976). The Post treads similar ground.
