Christina Ricci stars as young con woman Miranda, who walks into the life of British northern librarian Frank (John Simm) and true love blooms. But then Ricci’s partner Christian (John Hurt) and victim Nailor (Kyle MacLachlan) enter the picture.
Involved, even engaging performances from Ricci and Simm give director Marc Munden’s 2002 thriller Miranda a much-needed boost. But the bad dialogue, crazy plotting and an unreal atmosphere quickly erode any pleasure this British black-comedy romantic thriller might bring.
The Sim character is appealing and would work well in another movie.
Also in the cast are Julian Rhind-Tutt, Cavan Clerkin, Matthew Marsh and Pik Sen Lim.
Miranda is directed by Marc Munden, runs 90 minutes, is made by Feelgood Films, Film Council, FilmFour and Senator Film Produktion, is released by Channel Four and Pathé, is written by Rob Young, is written by Ben V Davis, is produced by Laurence Bowen, is scored by Murray Gold and is designed by Alice Normington.
It is rated R for some strong sexuality and language.
